When David Jones joined "The Biggest Loser" at 307 pounds he knew something had to change. His health was in decline, and a "disastrous" failed foot pursuit warned him that his physical capabilities as a police officer were fading fast. But once he arrived at the ranch, he turned things around.
Injuries left him unable to fully participate in workouts and challenges, and yet he still dropped 57 pounds in just six weeks -- that is before his blue teammates sent him packing.
"(It was a) huge disadvantage," David said of those injuries during a Monday morning visit to TODAY. "Not only physically, because of the competition itself, but even strategically. I didn't get to be part of the team."
But missing out on the camaraderie didn't affect his motivation. Since leaving the show, David's continued his success on the scales, now weighing in 96 pounds lighter than when he started his journey.
His success doesn't end there. Along the way to becoming a healthier man and fitter cop, the father of seven found he's even become a better dad. One of David's daughters, Tiffany, suffers from Rett Syndrome, a neurodevelopmental disorder that leaves her dependent on others -- most of all, her father.
"One of the things that I realized, especially when I got back (from the ranch), was how much easier it was to lift her and put her into bed or her stroller or whatever," he explained. "That made me think, what happens 20, 30 years from now, and she's still around and I've got to be physically fit?"
It's a challenge he now feels he's prepared to meet.
See how David's former fellow contestants are faring on the ranch when "The Biggest Loser" airs Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC.
